Quality in public transport and for public means of transport

SQS certifies quality standards in the railway industry as well as for public and other traffic- or transport systems.

The benefits, the availability and the safety of a transportation means for the carriage of persons or goods depend not only on the quality of the development and manufacturing but also on proper operation and preventive maintenance.

All these requirements are reinforced by a long service life and a high cost pressure in manufacturing, application and maintenance.
The fulfillment of the manifold customer expectations and increasing normative requirements demand systematic approaches from the providers. In many cases, there is also a legal or official obligation to provide such management systems and to prove their conformity with a certification.

In the «Public Transport» sector, SQS concentrates its competence and capacity in the certification of management systems for the railway industry as well as for the public transport systems.

Quality standards for manufacturers and suppliers of rail vehicles ...

In often complex projects, manufacturers and their suppliers are in a constant field of tension between quality, punctuality and costs. At the interface between customers and buyers, often worlds are clashing, SMEs and large industry or public institutions and authorities. Requirements can only be defined and monitored with uniform standards.

The IRIS standard (ISO/TS 22163:2017) serves to improve quality throughout the entire supply chain of the railway industry. It leads to the assurance of competitiveness in the rail vehicle industry and offers improved reliability of quality data on railway components. IRIS has a UNIFE- database of certified companies.

The standard EN 15085 for the welding of rail vehicles and parts is based on the requirements of the welding standard ISO 3834 and regulates the requirements for welding in the manufacturing and maintenance of rolling stock.

... and for the operation and maintenance of rolling stock means

In liberalised markets, the operation of rolling stock is regulated by legal and regulatory requirements. The ECM Regulation 445/2011/EU applies to the bodies responsible for the maintenance of rolling stock. The certification to ECM for freight wagons is a legal obligation. For locomotives and other vehicles, compliance with the requirements can be demonstrated with a declaration of conformity. Workshops for rolling stock can also voluntarily be certified or confirmed as maintenance providers according to the ECM-Guideline.
