ISO 14064-1 provides an internationally recognized framework for the systematic quantification and transparent reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and removals. It enables organizations to credibly demonstrate their commitment to climate action, strengthen transparency towards stakeholders, and create a sound basis for effectively managing their GHG performance and pursuing their climate and sustainability goals.

Independent validation or verification of GHG information further enhances its credibility and reliability. While validation assesses the plausibility of claims regarding intended future results, verification confirms information relating to results that have already occurred. Both processes strengthen the confidence of customers, business partners and other stakeholders in an organization’s climate reporting and climate-related claims.

Gültigkeit

Verification or validation relates to a defined GHG statement and the specified reference or reporting period. Unlike certification, it has no time-limited validity. The validation/verification opinion documents the outcome of the independent assessment at the time of its completion.

Verification or validation in accordance with ISO 14064-1 cannot be combined with other certification, inspection, or verification/validation activities. However, organizations can leverage synergies with other management systems, such as Quality Magnagement Systems according to ISO 9001:2026, to improve efficiency and make use of existing processes, controls, and documentation structures.
